While to visiting home, Brooklyn, MI
I had surprised my family, they had no idea I was coming home for a visit, [it was epic.] So I caught my Dad as he was headed to get a haircut so I joined him and we just went to the first barber shop we could find.
We walked into to the shop and found a note in sloppy handwriting, 'take a seat, I'll be back in 5 minutes' I sat on a bench clearly bought in the 70's and marvelled at the walls literally covered of everything from antique knifes to vintage military posters. There was an old black and white movie playing and all that was around the barber chair was white hair clippings.
An skinny old man came in through the door, "Well heyyah there," shook our hands, "Bob Jackson" he said. We talked as he cut Dad's hair, he told us he was 79 and had been working as a barber since he returned from the Korean war. Which lead to stories of the war and he told us what it was like being drafted at 17 years old and working in the tanks [or whatever they were called] his job was to fire the 50 Calliper.
He changed the subject by askings, "wanna know how I met my wife?" He told me at 15 years old all the nieghborhood kids were playing baseball an he was up to bat. Bob hit the ball and when he threw the bat it made like cupid's arrow and hit her right upside her head. The next day he went to her house to check on her, she came out with her head stiched up and he offered to take her out for ice cream, they've been together ever since [58 years.]
I never got the chance to minister to Bob but I am such a sucker for old love stories that last :)
PRAY for Bob's wife Pat, as her health is "not so good," and pray the Lord blesses Bob for his faithfulness.
